SALTIRE-1

render_saltire1_ortho.png

Saltire-1 was the first rocket launched by GU Rocketry. Based on an off-the-shelf Bullpup airframe, and using a solid rocket motor, Saltire-1 achieved an altitude of 5087ft.

The rocket's development was a key stepping stone towards more ambitious projects, allowing the team to test every aspect of our methodology, from design and analysis, to launch and recovery.

Saltire-1 featured a student-designed and manufactured avionics bay, ultimately paving the way for GUR's modern avionics systems. The success of Saltire-1 allowed us to greatly expand our ambitions for its successor, Saltire-2, and our projects since.

Outreach

GUR's outreach program was developed with Saltire-1, inspiring interest from students in schools across Scotland. The concept for the rocket's mission patch was created by a pupil from Hillhead High School, during our Space Day outreach event.
